Butterfield Stage
Lois Edington
Author of Westward Ho - Lois Hugle Edington was born and raised in Latimer County and graduated from Wilburton High School. She was a newspaper writer for a number of years at the Hartshorne Sun, Daily Oklahoman, and the McAlester News Capital. In the last year Lois decided to write a book about the Butterfield Stage that made its first run in 1858. It was a mail route from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco, California which was almost a 3,000 mile route. The story takes place where the route came to the Mountain Station Cemetery in the Higgins community. Lois was always fascinated with her family history in the area and decided to write her book, “Westward Ho.” “People are fascinated with the history, pictures, and details from the very first page of the book,” says Lois.
